One of the key ministry aspects of Conquer Athletics is holding community events where our athletes can help give back, whether that's with their time, resources, or even their talents! One of those events is coming up.
This coming Independence Day, Conquer Athletics Sports Ministry will be hosting our 4th annual Home Run Derby Fundraiser benefiting families of fallen soldiers! Typically, we host this event on Memorial Day, which is all about remembering and honoring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our Country. Although the date of the event is different this year, the mission is still the same! Join us as we honor those who gave their life for our great country and raise money to help the families they left behind! We will be hitting “Homers for Heroes”!
what is a home run derby fundraiser?
You may be wondering how a Home Run Derby fundraiser works. If you are familiar with the MLB Home Run Derby, then you will understand the basics of how the contest works. Here is a very simple explanation of how we will run the event:
Participants will be athletes who play “Backyard Baseball” with our ministry. Each participant will get 4 minutes to hit as many home runs as they can. The top four players will move on to the second round. Then, the top two players will move on to the Final round to determine the contest winner.
Where does the fundraising come in?
Before the contest, each participant will collect “pledges” from the community. Each sponsor will pledge a dollar amount that they will give for every home run their sponsored participant hits in the contest! For example: Let’s say a player asks his coworker to sponsor him for the event. They pledge $5 for every home run he hits in the contest. During the event, he hits 16 home runs in the first round and 9 in the second. That’s a total of 25 home runs. His coworker would give $125 to the fundraiser (25 x $5 per = $125).
Now, imagine each participant collecting 10 pledges. Or 20 pledges. Maybe even 50 pledges! The impact just our athletes and their sponsors will make will be incredible!
Here's how you can show your support
The Homers for Heroes Home Run Derby Fundraiser will be a free community event. Bring the entire family and join us on the 4th of July to cheer on the participants, learn about various Veteran organizations in our area, and help us honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. There will be food trucks, prizes, activities for the kids, and of course, a ton of homers on the field!
